Prof. Massimo TistarelliMassimo Tistarelli was born on November 11, 1962 in Genoa, Italy. He received a degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Genoa, Italy in 1987 and the Phd in Computer Science and Robotics in 1991 from the same university. Since 1986 he has been involved as project coordinator and task manager in several projects on computer vision and image analysis funded by the European Community. Since 1994 he has been the director of the Computer Vision Laboratory at the Department of Communication, Computer and Systems Science of the University of Genoa, and now at the University of Sassari, leading several National and European projects on computer vision applications and image-based biometrics. He is a founding member of the Biosecure Foundation, which includes all major European research centers working in biometrics. He is the Chair of the Management Committee of the European Union COST Action IC1106 "Integrating Biometrics and Forensics for the Digital Age". His main research interests cover biological and artificial vision (particularly in the area of recognition, three-dimensional reconstruction and dynamic scene analysis), pattern recognition, biometrics, visual sensors, robotic navigation and visuo-motor coordination. He is co-author of more than 200 scientific papers in peer reviewed books, conferences and international journals, and the principal editor for the Springer book "Handbook of Remote Biometrics", published in 2009. Prof. Tistarelli is one of the world-recognized leading researchers in the area of biometrics, especially in the field of face recognition and multimodal fusion. He is associate editor for the journals IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, Image and Vision Computing, Pattern Recognition Letters and IET Biometrics. Since 2003 he is the director for the International Summer School for Advanced Studies in Biometrics yearly held in Alghero, Italy. In 2000 he was the General Chair for the International workshop on "Advances in Facial Image Analysis and Recognition Technology," in 2002 for the International workshop on “Biometric Authentication”; in 2007 for the fifth Int.l Workshop on Automatic Identification Advanced Technologies, in 2009 and 2015 for the 3rd Int.l Conference on Biometrics. He is the Scientific Director of the Italian Platform for Biometric Technologies (established from the Italian Ministry of the University and Scientific Research), first vice-President of the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR), President of the Italian Chapter of the IEEE Biometrics Council, Member of the IEEE Biometrics Professional Certification Committee, Fellow member of IAPR and Senior member of IEEE. Prof Tistarelli is currently Full Professor in Computer Science at the Department of Communication Sciences and Information Technology at the University of Sassari, Italy. -- |
