The School Courses

The school courses will cover all main aspects of multimodal biometrics including a view of several modalities and integration strategies. The biometric modalities covered during the courses include:

  • Algorithms for face data analysis (2D and 3D)
  • Iris-based personal authentication;
  • Fingerprint data collection and processing;
  • Speacker recognition;
  • Signature recognition;
  • Analysis of posture and gait.

The lectures on integration strategies will cover several aspects including:

  • Novel sensors and their application;
  • Data and algorithm level integration;
  • Collection and management of large scale databases;
  • Analysis of data streaming;
  • Analysis of 3D data;
  • Evaluation and assessment strategies;
  • Embedded systems;
  • Security and data protection;

The classes will be held during the week in two sessions (morning and afternoon) with a coffee break in the middle of each session. The course timings will be arranged to allow some leisure and free time for the students to take advantage of the nice environment.

A special session will be held to allow the students to present their recent research outcomes related to biometrics.

All participating Phd students and Post-docs are warmly invited to discuss a focused research project with one of the lecturer to be jointly developed. The lecturers will supervise the work at a distance or during short visits of the student at the lecturer's lab. After some results are obtained, a joint research paper will be eventually produced at the end of the project.
